Analysis

The ruling Union pour la République (UNIR) party won 34 out of 41 seats during the 15 February senatorial election, which leading opposition parties boycotted. Under the parliamentary regime introduced by the 2024 constitution, the leader of the largest party in the National Assembly becomes the president of the Council of Ministers, holding executive power, while the head of state assumes a purely ceremonial role.
